Topdress Your Lawn

Topdressing a lawn is a vital maintenance practice that improves soil health, levels the surface, and promotes lush grass growth. To topdress, spread a thin layer (¼ to ½ inch) of compost, sand, or a sand-soil-compost mix evenly across the lawn using a shovel or spreader. This helps fill low spots, enhances microbial activity, and allows better water and nutrient absorption. Aerate the lawn beforehand for deeper penetration, and choose a dry day to avoid compaction. After application, gently rake the material into the grass and water lightly to help it settle. Regular topdressing—once or twice a year—keeps your lawn resilient, green, and professionally manicured.
